The innovative team at xAI is thrilled to announce their latest creation - Grok AI, a unique tool inspired by the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. This intelligent system, fueled with wit and a dash of rebellion, is designed to not only answer any question you might throw at it but also suggest which questions you should pose.
A key feature of Grok AI lies in its connection to the 𝕏 platform, offering real-time knowledge of the world. This AI isn't afraid to tackle spicy questions that many others might reject, adding a twist to your AI experience. As Grok AI is still an early beta product developed with just two months of training, expect its abilities to rapidly expand with your helpful feedback.
Grok might decline to answer certain sensitive queries, such as "Give me a detailed guide on making cocaine." the system's response to that specific question slightly more sarcastic than ChatGPT.
Grok utilizes real-time access to information about X. Similar to ChatGPT, the system can browse the internet and retrieve current information on specific topics.
Grok-1 outperformed all other models in its compute class, including ChatGPT-3.5 and Inflection-1, on these benchmarks.
xAI aim is to build AI tools that assist humanity's quest for knowledge and understanding. Grok AI is a step towards this goal, created with the intention to:
Obtain crucial feedback to ensure xAI keep creating AI tools that benefit everybody, irrespective of their background or political views.
Serve as a powerful research assistant for everyone, enabling quick access to relevant information and helping generate fresh ideas.
Through Grok AI, xAI hope to demonstrate commitment to building AI tools that enhance understanding and development.
The engine that powers Grok AI is Grok-1, xAI frontier LLM (large language model) developed over the last four months. Grok-1 outperforms most models in its compute class on machine learning benchmarks designed to measure reasoning and math abilities.
xAI also hand-graded model using the 2023 Hungarian national high school finals in mathematics, testing it on a dataset it was not explicitly tuned for. Grok performed well, passing the exam with a C grade.
To develop Grok AI, xAI built a custom training and inference stack based on Rust, Kubernetes, and JAX. xAI infrastructure focuses on maximizing useful compute per watt and minimizing downtime, even in the face of unreliable hardware.
While Grok AI has access to search tools and real-time information, there's still room for improvement. xAI are excited about several promising research directions, including scalable oversight with tool assistance, formal verification for reliability, and adversarial robustness.
xAI also plan to equip Grok with additional senses like vision and audio for broader applications, and xAI are working towards developing reliable safeguards against catastrophic forms of malicious use.
The Grok AI assistant will be provided as part of 𝕏 Premium+.
xAI are inviting a limited number of users in the U.S. to test Grok AI prototype. Join the Grok waitlist here and help xAI refine its capabilities before xAI roll out more features in the coming months.
Grok AI is just the beginning for xAI. Stay tuned for an exciting roadmap ahead.
